We have been using Postlab to share projects between different editors in different locations for more than a year now as well as Postlab drive. But what about if you are in the same location, how will this work?
Each of our computers used for editing, laptop or desktop, have at least two disks. Cache is an SSD to store FCP libraries from Postlab and act as cache for Postlab Drive. The other disk is Studio where we store media locally. We also use Postlab Drive to store media in the cloud.
We have a year old MacMini with several G-RAID disks to store completed productions. The network is still 1 GB even if the server have a 10GB interface. The wireless network have near the same speed as the fixed network.
We can have the media files on a local Mac Mini that acts as server instead of a local disk or in the cloud. Our internet speed is 250 Mbps, much less than our internal network so it’s no problem to relocated all media files to a local server if so needed. Just assure that FCP cache and FCP library is located on a local SSD with the same name for all editors.
If you need to have several editors in the same production and they are editing at the same time, you need to split their work into different FCP libraries, but same media outside the library.
No problems to export an hour long project, with media from the server, to a local drive.
