Development of a Documentary

One of the differences between dramas and documentaries that you don’t have a script in the latter type of film. But, if you are making a nature film, it could either be scripted like a drama or non-scripted like a documentary.

The assumption I have as for now, is that Wild Again will be a documentary and thus non-scripted.

In either case, three of four processes above are same, i.e. Story development, Marketing Strategy and Finance. If it’s a scripted production, there is a screenwriting phase. If it’s a non-scripted film, then there is a preliminary research phase.

The story development starts with a logline describing the protagonist and her challanges. But in this case, I don’t have a clue.

This is why the preliminary research is so important, as we have to really learn the topic before we suggest the story.

Next, document structure for film productions.
